Chapter 1

Kaidan had woken up early that morning and was surprised to still see Shepard sleeping soundly. He couldn’t help but smile as he watched her. She was lying on her stomach, the sheets draped softly over her body. She was so beautiful. He still found himself wondering, after all these years and everything they had been through, how he had been lucky enough to get her to fall in love with him.

Kaidan paced anxiously inside Ambassador Udina’s office.  The Citadel had been hard hit by Sovereign and Saren’s attack, but the Embassies themselves remained mostly intact.  He had wanted to go with Shepard to meet with the Council members, Ambassador Udina and Captain Anderson, but she had refused.

“Any consequences for the choices taken during the attack will be mine and mine alone,” she had stated firmly.

The Letter

Shepard’s neck and back were beginning to ache from the hours she had spent leaning over her desk. She stared down at the unfinished letter trying to will the words to come. This was not the first time she had written a letter of condolences.  She had done one for the Jenkins family not that long ago. This one was different though.
